Take Action to Defend the Guard

Join us in taking action to support HB404 to ensure that the Montana National Guard is only deployed with proper congressional authorization, as the Constitution requires. Your voice is crucial in this legislative process.

?

The Montana Defend the Guard Act passed the House Energy, Telecommunications, and Federal Relations Committee by a vote of 8-6 and now moves to the full House for further consideration.

Residents of the state should take the following steps to help the bill advance.

Step 1: Contact the Speaker of the House

Reach out to Speaker of the House, Brandon Ler at 406-480-5687. Be firm, but professional, and let him know you support HB404 and would like to see him take action to move the bill forward.

Step 2: Contact your own state representative

Let them know you’d like them to vote YES on HB404 – and urge them to co-sponsor the bill as well. A phone call is far more effective than an email.

You can find their contact information here:

Step 3: Spread the word

Share this Action Alert widely by email and post on social media.

What is Defend the Guard?

The Defend the Guard Act is a critical piece of legislation aimed at ensuring that the state’s National Guard is not deployed into active duty combat  unless Congress passes an “official declaration of war” or takes an official action pursuant to Article I, Section 8, Clause 15 of the Constitution for the United States.
