DRONE SURVEILLANCE: VIRGINIA
Take Action Today
Hi, Alan. Nice DRONES!.
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

Virginia Law Placing Permanent Restrictions on Drones Now in Effect
Bill Link: SB1301
Effective Date: 7/8/2015
Overview: A Virginia law that permanently restricts the use of drones by state and local law enforcement went into effect. The new law not only establishes important privacy protections at the state level, it will also thwart the federal surveillance state.
HB2125 and SB1301 effectively replaced a previous temporary moratorium with permanent restrictions on drone use, an important second step towards ending mass, warrantless surveillance by drones in the state of Virginia. These new law requires a “state or local government department, agency, or instrumentality having jurisdiction over criminal law enforcement or regulatory violations,” to obtain a warrant before deploying a drone with only a few exceptions, like Blue and Amber alerts. Weaponized drones are also expressly banned. Other exceptions to the warrant requirement include when a law enforcement agency determines a drone necessary “to alleviate an immediate danger to any person,” training exercises and when a person consents to a search. Evidence obtained through the utilization of an unmanned aircraft system in violation of the law is not admissible in any criminal or civil proceeding.
