Take Action to Defend the Guard

Join us in taking action to support LD265 to ensure that the Maine National Guard is only deployed with proper congressional authorization, as the Constitution requires. Your voice is crucial in this legislative process.

?

The Maine Defend the Guard Act is currently in the Joint Veterans And Legal Affairs Committee, where it was given a hearing on Feb. 12.

It must pass by a majority vote to move forward in the legislative process.

Residents of the state should take the following steps to help the bill advance.

Step 1: Contact the Committee Chair

Reach out to Chair Laura Supica at laura.supica@legislature.maine.gov to thank her for scheduling a hearing for LD265.

Express your support for moving the bill forward.

Step 2: Contact the Committee Members

Call each member of the Committee. Let them know you support LD265 and encourage them to vote in favor with an Ought to Pass (OTP) recommendation from the committee.

Be firm, but courteous and professional.

What is Defend the Guard?

The Defend the Guard Act is a critical piece of legislation aimed at ensuring that the state’s National Guard is not deployed into active duty combat  unless Congress passes an “official declaration of war” or takes an official action pursuant to Article I, Section 8, Clause 15 of the Constitution for the United States.
