Take Action to Defend the Guard

Join us in taking action to support HB104 to ensure that the New Hampshire National Guard is only deployed with proper congressional authorization, as the Constitution requires. Your voice is crucial in this legislative process.

?

The New Hampshire Defend the Guard Act is currently in the House State-federal Relations and Veterans Affairs Committee, where it must pass by a majority vote to move forward in the legislative process. The committee held two hearings on the bill in early 2025, before a vote was approved to retain the legislation until the fall, where an Ought to Pass (OTP) recommendation from the committee will make it more likely that the full House will pass it as well.

Residents of the state should take the following steps to help the bill advance.

Step 1: Contact the Committee Chair

Reach out to Chair Michael Moffett at 603.491.0553. Let him know you appreciate the hearings he scheduled for HB104 and would like to see him give it a priority in the next part of the session. Express your support for moving the bill forward with an OTP recommendation.

Step 2: Contact the Committee Members

Contact each member of the Committee. Let them know you support HB104 and encourage them to vote in favor of an OTP recommendation.

Be firm, but courteous and professional.

What is Defend the Guard?

The Defend the Guard Act is a critical piece of legislation aimed at ensuring that the state’s National Guard is not deployed into active duty combat  unless Congress passes an “official declaration of war” or takes an official action pursuant to Article I, Section 8, Clause 15 of the Constitution for the United States.
