Take Action to Defend the Guard

Join us in taking action to support H355 to ensure that the Vermont National Guard is only deployed with proper congressional authorization, as the Constitution requires. Your voice is crucial in this legislative process.

?

The Vermont Defend the Guard Act has been assigned to the House Committee on Government Operations and Military Affairs. It must  be scheduled for a hearing to have an opportunity to pass by a majority vote and move forward in the legislative process.

Residents of the state should take the following steps to help the bill advance.

Step 1: Contact the Committee Chair

Reach out to Committee Chair Matthew Birong at mbirong@leg.state.vt.us – let him know you’d like him to schedule a hearing for H355 and express your support for moving the bill forward.

Step 2: Contact the Committee Members

Contact each member of the Committee. Let them know you support the Defend the Guard Act and encourage them to vote in favor of H355.

Be firm, but courteous and professional.

Vice Chair: Lisa Hango – LHango@leg.state.vt.us
Chea Waters Evans – cevans@leg.state.vt.us

What is Defend the Guard?

The Defend the Guard Act is a critical piece of legislation aimed at ensuring that the state’s National Guard is not deployed into active duty combat  unless Congress passes an “official declaration of war” or takes an official action pursuant to Article I, Section 8, Clause 15 of the Constitution for the United States.
